Reliable reservoir interpretation improves Williams’ decision-making

Client: Williams
Location: Gulf of Mexico
Objective: Provide risk reserves and production profile

As a provider of floating facilities and export pipelines in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, Williams Field Services Co. depends on a keen understanding of the economics of infrastructure projects for new field developments.

To help it gain that understanding, Williams frequently turns to Knowledge Reservoir to assess reservoir risk or the volumes of reserves and production rate. Knowledge Reservoir has evaluated for Williams, in separate studies, the reservoir risk for the Nansen, Boomvang, and Devils Tower fields.

The goals of these studies were to assist Williams to better understand rerservoir architecture and properties, thereby increasing confidence in reserve estimates and risk assessments to assist it in its capital investments decisions.

The evaluation of oil and gas reserves risk by Knowledge Reservoir led to the successful bid by Williams to invest more than $400 million to develop the infrastructure for the Devils Tower deepwater project. Knowledge Reservoir’s evaluation of the Boomvang and Nansen fields gave Williams the confidence to invest $200 million for providing the 56-mile oil gathering system, the 114-mile gas gathering system, and the onshore gas processing plant in Markham, Texas.
