Geoscience and engineering expertise spur race to first oil
Client : Murphy
Location: Deepwater Gulf of Mexico
Objective: Provide deepwater subsurface appraisal and development expertise to help client exploit Medusa Field

As one of its major discoveries in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, the Medusa Field is critically important to the success of Murphy Exploration and Production Company

Discovery of the field in October 1999 was followed with a three-well appraisal program to prove its commercial viability. Since June 2000, Knowledge Reservoir has been an important advisor to the integrated project team created by Murphy and non-operating partners AGIP Petroleum and Callon Petroleum to move Medusa from appraisal to development.

Knowledge Reservoir has assisted in developing and evaluating geological and reservoir models, developing production facilities, and evaluating associated risks.

With Knowledge Reservoirs help, first oil began flowing from the Medusa Field in December 2003. At its peak, initial estimates showed Medusa was expected to produce 40,000 barrels of oil a day. Reports in January 2005 had the field exceeding that goal.
