Knowledge Reservoir Announces 2010 Release of Its Deepwater Gulf of Mexico Knowledge Base – ReservoirKB™
 |
In the next few days, Knowledge Reservoir will release the 2010 version of its successful Deepwater Gulf of Mexico knowledge base, ReservoirKB.
ReservoirKB currently represents the most comprehensive knowledge base directed towards exploration and appraisal geoscientists and engineers in the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico region. It provides coverage of all deepwater productive sands discovered, constituting reservoirs currently either in production or sanctioned for development. |
Additionally, the service provides continually updated reservoir performance metrics, analogs, lessons learned, and regional knowledge not available from any other single source. The knowledge base is a unique combination of reservoir engineering data, geological description, and production data analysis.
ReservoirKB is a subscription service on a hosted portal for oil and gas companies exploring and evaluating prospects in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Base production data for every field is uploaded on a quarterly basis. A new release is presently made annually; this most recent includes fresh data and information covering 2009, as well as completely updated analyses and new functionality features. As the definitive source for information on deepwater reservoirs in the Gulf of Mexico, ReservoirKB has seen phenomenal growth since its original development and now includes:
- over 290 fields,
- over 900 associated reservoirs,
- over 1200 wells (including appraisal and development), and
- current discussion on the critical challenges facing the industry, including a review of the Paleogene.
For more information on ReservoirKB or to arrange a demonstration or subscription, contact Dave Rees at 713 586-5950 or drees@knowledge-reservoir.com
Knowledge Reservoir Realigns/Strengthens Service Offerings
Knowledge Reservoir is realigning and strengthening its business structure and service offerings to enable the company to more aggressively pursue several key market initiatives. The company announced that it is dividing its business lines into a series of consultingpractices, each led by an experienced practice director.
The Reservoir Management business is refocused into four practices:
- deepwater,
- improved recovery and field redevelopment,
- unconventional resources, and
- reserves and mergers/acquisitions.
Knowledge Reservoir has extensive reservoir modeling and reserves experience on individual field projects and basin-wide studies in deepwater, including the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, and West Africa. The company has a long list of clients representing a broad range of experience in offshore and onshore basins worldwide and has been involved in various stages and work scopes on many IOR and CO2 projects around the world.
Knowledge Reservoir also continues to grow its Surface Systems business along two practices:
- flow assurance and
- pipeline systems engineering.
The Knowledge Management business stream, in which the company is seeing considerable growth opportunities, will be developed in three areas:
- ReservoirKB deepwater knowledge base,
- knowledge base products, and
- Knowledge Management consulting, including data management solutions.
Commenting on the announcement, Dr. Ivor R. Ellul, President and CEO of Knowledge Reservoir, stated, “Knowledge Reservoir is excited about the new opportunities that we believe will be opening up for us in 2010 and beyond, and we have a clear objective to capitalize on these as they present themselves in each practice area around the world."

International Operations
Knowledge Reservoir continues to grow its presence in several major oil and gas producing regions.
Middle East
Knowledge Reservoir continues to support its clients in the Middle East with multiple new projects initiated in Oman and Abu Dhabi dealing with reservoir characterization and field development planning.
Knowledge Reservoir, LLC Established in Oman to Lead Middle East Oil and Gas Services
Knowledge Reservoir and Modern Petrotech L.L.C., an oil and gas services provider in the Sultanate of Oman, announced the formation of a new joint venture company, offering consulting and resourcing services in the upstream, midstream, and downstream areas of the oil and gas industry to its clients throughout the Middle East region. Latin America
Knowledge Reservoir is presently working on several new projects in Brazil and Peru, with business development fronts in a number of areas.
In Peru, Mexico, Chile, and Colombia, we are conducting technical evaluations of small oil and gas fields with the purpose of assisting several clients to divest certain reservoir assets.
In Colombia, we are assembling a heavy oil team to assist an international operator to bring in heavy oil technology to lower extraction costs and to increase production.
In Peru, we are proceeding with the evaluation of several fields in the Maraňon Basin to increase recovery factor from the Vivian and Chonta formations. We continue with the evaluation of a WAG (nitrogen) project for another client in the Talara Basin.
In Chile, Knowledge Reservoir is in discussion with a client on how to increase exploratory well success rates in deep-seated turbidites that may require seismic inversion to be properly identified.
In Mexico, we are working with a number of operators to form a consortium to study and operate several mature oil and gas fields.
Knowledge Reservoir Enters Kazakhstan
Knowledge Reservoir has been invited to present workshops in Astana and Uralsk in Kazakhstan this month. The workshops will focus on presenting the company’s capabilities in exploration and production. This will include expertise in pre-salt depositional environments such as are found in the Precaspian, as well as the customary Jurassic and Cretaceous reservoir systems that are prevalent in offshore Mangyshlak and Ustyurt.
